Brilliant brilliant written in fire
The moving finger writes and having writ retires
Look at what it says on the wall
You better drop everything when I call
Brilliant cycle perfect and complete
one thing leads to another and on down the street
I can’t hide the fact that I’m smitten
Dazzled by the brilliant fire in which it is written

821 : 7/9/00 : Go (Sacrifice)
Sign of the sacrifice
everything has a price
I’m no exception there
even if I act like I don’t care
Don’t put one over on me
I’m the real article, see
watch my hands closely
there’s no trick it’s real mostly
I made my fortune in computer go
and it taught me the one thing I know
everybody gets once chance to see
how I use mine’s up to me

820 : 7/8/00 : Passion
Watch passion ignite
not a dim light
blind sense and sight
but it’s all right ma
I’m stalwart strong
But gone for a blonde
I waited so long
to hear the song that
made me just hear
potent wild clear
past self and fear
and not a mere truth
written in gold
untouched unsold
passion hot and cold
a Love so bold

819 : 7/7/00 : Jennie Song
Guinevere...
Guinevere...
Guinevere...
So delicious beyond compare
everything’s better with Jennifer there
at my side; love’s sexy bride
I’m sporting an excitement I can’t hide
Jennie’s song is short and sweet
a princess a twin blessed with a discrete
eternal grace; an angel’s face
that sends me swooning in a transcendent place
plain or complex, coarse or fine
Musta made friends upstairs to make her mine
I won’t let go; you know it’s so; a
Jennie song is in my heart and in my soul

818 : 7/6/00 : Punk (Karma Wheel)
If you run down a punk in Amarillo T-X
If you play football A and M will cash your checks
If a black man robs the wrong store at the wrong time
chances are they’ll burn him for another man’s crime
I wrote this song on behalf of Dustin Camp
I gave the Karma wheel a spin and locked down the clamp
what goes around comes around I promise it’s true
and one day it will come around for you
Hey punks listen while I sing you a tune
I saw the spirit of your friend howl at the moon
He gave me a message to pass along
He made me promise to deliver it in a punk song
His spirit is vital because you don’t forget
He said to make you promise to live without regret
He said true revenge none can halt or steal
When it’s carried out by the Karma wheel
If you want real justice you must make it spin
believe in his spirit and make your lives begin
don’t dwell on this bad world as bad as you feel
I promise I’m at work with the Karma wheel

817 : 7/5/00 : Notebook
1,888 : 39 ?Get your notebook
get your pen
write it down
you won’t be told again
here’s your secret
here’s your clue
here’s your jumpstart
hear and do
read your notebook
heed its words
bright like fireflies
free like birds
write it down
don’t miss a thought
can’t be bottled
can’t be bought
Only given
free a gift
listen feel your
fortunes lift

816 : 7/4/00 : Independence Tip
Fit that quill pen with an Independence Tip
Be careful with the balances and how many checks you skip
Nothing written down can make a well ordered state
No brand of governance can work that fails to relate
How fine are you gonna have to write
to fit it on a thousand pages
I’ve got only five to the fifths
and the thing has took me ages
nevertheless my dear friend
All that starts is bound to end
nine hundred a thousand a thousand one
look this story has just begun
soon no more an apprentice
on this declaration’s trip
I’ve got my fountain pen fitted
with my independence tip

815 : 7/3/00 : History
Let’s make history
just like anyone
let’s start a movement
make a new thing underneath the sun
And looking back upon
The way we changed the course
memory’s a time machine
and human thought’s the primal force
Whatever we choose now
is just tomorrow’s history
And whatever happens next
Is what we caused and meant to be
It is our portion and our right
to shape the time that’s given to
the epoch of our power trips
There’s none more key than me or you
The history we’re making now
At least those who get off the fence
is nothing but the myths
they will relate a thousand eons hence

814 : 7/2/00 : Finding the Work
Finding the work is a job on it’s own
I need a day job besides to throw the taxman a bone
Choose life the rally of the doomed
Oh I choose to be lost inhumed
What does it mean to every day
Walk in this crazy, untrained way
Follow Vishnu, Buddha, Christ
Follow the wind the moon the zeitgeist
Practice caution practice craft
sail off on a wooden raft
discover some enchanted land
the work you love is close at hand
Somewhere in a maze of life
there is a chance past fear and strife
of finding the work we require
to end this road of war and fire
And if I find the work I love
the task that fits me like a glove
then I’ll contribute to the cause
to build a whole world from the flaws

813 : 7/1/00 : Home
The millions that have wandered
oh so long and oh so far
the time that we have squandered
following an irrational star
when will my million be led home?
when will we find our way home?
The specter of what’s left of us
starfaring tribe our noble race
left waiting for the cosmic bus
the foolish looks left on our Face
When will we wander home?
When will our wanderings take us home?
Ten thousand years ten thousand more
and look at what we’ve come to now
and look at what I’ve come to now
Whatever we may have in store
Still just want to get home somehow
when will our star lead us home?
When will they come to take us home?

812 : 6/30/00 : Paralyzed
Paralyzed from the neck up
don’t know how I dream this dreck up
agitated and distracted
all the best words were redacted
Paralyzed strapped in a chair
don’t know how to get from here to there
I am a sorry sod
Yet on and on and on I plod
somebody come to break this spell
if I can just take one more trip to the well
and throw my last half dollar in
then I’ll be ready to begin
things start things go things stop
some hot nights I think I’ll pop
something I cannot do without
one shot and I drop with a shout
friends carry me to where
he is and take me to him there
lower me through the roof
he’ll cure me of my need for proof

811 : 6/29/00 : Like This
Everybody's got a song like this
Everybody's got a song like this...
Robert Johnson did it first
he made a deal with the devil
devil said what's your conditions
he said I got sev'ral
I gotta be the first
that's number one
the real thing
the one born son
gotta have it strong
with the ladies man
have'm crying for me
y'understand
The devil smiled
said is that all
git yer homemade guitar
and prepare to fall
Ol' Robert said
there's just one more thing
when you hear the next song
I'm gonna sing
You gotta give everybody
a song like this
you gotta give everyone
a song like this
never seen before
never sing before
every single one
just one
like this
The devil
smiled and
said:
"nice twist"
Yeah like this

810 : 6/28/00 : Plan Ahead
Plan ahead to think your way
out of the box of day to day
and living for the weekend
such a short leash, mate
screw it on and mark it well
You won't get another so please dispell
any notion that you can
forever hesitate
blow it up become a star
a twelve room home a fancy car
a private island of your own
go native paint your face
stick a gun under its chin
get in the enlightenment line again
let the great revolver put you
once more in your place

809 : 6/27/00 : Just Call
Just call me now baby
I got a hard core yearning
A knot of pure resentment
at the root of me is burning
I want to take you baby
and do just what I like
hard core nothing shocking
sing it baby grip the mic
Do it with me onstage honey
Show them how it's done
Show them how excited you get
when your hand's around my gun
Plug in and get hard core with me
push back take it all
slide down on it feel me
push me back against the wall

807 : 6/25/00 : Minutes
The wheel is inscribed
demarked by fives
that form the equation
of the twelve persuasion
Degrees Minutes seconds per hour
The factor of twelve
five is prime more power
Built in circular riemann space
The powers that be gettin' up in my face
The big sweep tells the story true
I just swinging closer closer to you
circles in circles
story of my life
I'm storming the castle
and taking a wife
The reason that I'm back for more
Is I know what I'm fighting for
But only God knows what's in store

don't need nothing else
I just gotta be there be there myself
Don't need interstellar

don't need to be a captain
just a Cheshire Cat
Gotta be there gotta be there
in the thick
Gotta see how the tree makes the

don't want no waiting
no in between

805 : 6/23/00 : Flies On the Ceiling
Files on the ceiling bats in my belfry
Don't give me that no don't you dare touch me
Dogs on the dark moor cats on the fence
I'm trying to calculate my recompense
Put it all together I guess I'm doing fine
I'm just trying to figure out which one's mine
Smoke on the water drifting and rising
I just want one day that's fucking surprising
When was the last time I woke to find
a single anomaly to challenge my mind
Voices in ducts and lights in the skies
you're lying to me baby I can see it in your eyes
I've got my guard up blocking my resource
my mainline my final recourse
Please God help me find the medium
I'll slip it to her so nice and make her come
Send down my muse we'll make it three
they can make a genius sandwich out of me

Baby buddha bellyhead
floating in your jelly bed
smiling down on all us fold
who don’t get the joke
Special jelly pulsing red
lotus and a great big head
Heady bell buddha, Baby
You can see I don’t mean maybe
with my lady and my juice
Play my one hand fast and loose
far away from Buddha nature
still caught up in nomenclature
pyrrodinyl pyrridines
and other kings of crazy rings
I’ve done my share I cannot lie
I’ve dropped it right into my eye
but baby Buddha bellyhead
will take the heat for me instead
and I will fall into the sway
of motivating in the way

The day before father’s day
in some room not far away
in some circle plain to see
a mighty muse was sent to me
power of breath spirit of wind
the Lord giveth and the Lord doth rescind
still I was glad and no lie
To see Turtle pass by
I spoke to Turtle
and breathed an image of light
beamed through a black hole
blown through the center of the other side of a wild night
disappears as quickly as
any other source of inspiration does
Even so the turtle swims
out there through the heavens

799: 6/17/00 : Surprise!
As the blood bubbles up in my lungs
As famous last words die on our tongues
Dark wings unfurl before my eyes
Surprise!
As I give in to the existential grind
A thousand justifications in my mind
Suddenly to a new dawn I rise
Surprise!
At the top of a monstrous mountain of shit
That I climbed just for the hell of it
I find an ancient subtle and wise
Surprise!
In a heavily annotated suburban slum
in a grid gray relentless silent and glum
I hear a gyrfalcon’s purest cries
Surprise!

798 : 6/16/00 : Alchemist
Stark against an electric field
thrown up by a curtain of static annealed
in the cauldron of cumulous alchemy
set against night called up by me
The great is reflected in the small
a backlit fiasco projected on a wall
an octopus ink pod squeezed in my fist
is the essence of the magic of the alchemist
What is the reason what is the plan
for the way the sky’s colors all shifted and ran
and created a crazy tapestry
stark against the sacred hall of alchemy
I needed the power I needed the juice
I need a thunderbolt to cut me loose
from the loop I was stuck in fast
caused by a moment of doubt in my past
did the light seize hold did the alchemy take
did the fettering chains fall off or only shake
There is no answer here it’s too soon to tell
in a year’s time I’ll read the disposition of the spell

797 : 6/15/00 : Inferiority Complex
1,868 : 19 ?It’s written in blood
in the book of days
the devil gets the opposite
when he prays
A backward connection
in the nether realm
try not to let the
confusion overwhelm
inferiority complex
is said to be the cause
A lack of proper upbringing
a lack of applause
a lack of close companionship
and frozen in ice
no wonder the devil
isn’t very nice

there’s the riddle true
don’t laugh ‘cause the same
thing could happen to you

I am not what you think
I am not what you think
But hey keep on buying me
You, you are beautiful
beautiful, beautiful
I want to spill all over you
and demonstrate that beauty is true
You are not what you think
You are not what you think
You are not what you think
but hey keep on selling what you have to
We, we are invincible
immortal, indivisible
through the collective agency of our will
we’ll force feed the system the poison pill
We are not what they think
We are not what they think
We are not what they think
Nothing here to buy at the brink
And what we have is not for sale
So please give up on what you feel you must think

795 : 6/13/00 : Just
The things that I see as I go about my biz
The way that I dream and the way the thing is
my continual state of dismay and disgust
as I work my clean slate and do what I must
there’s not a just man no not one
go out with a lantern go out with a gun
There’s not a just man anywhere
Look where you want I don’t care
So consider this fragment an artifact
I’ll gouge out my eyes and make a pact
to look no more see just within
then I’ll be ready to begin

794 : 6/12/00 : Fame
Fame is a weapon
fame is a tool
fame is a mistress
and I’m her fool
Fame is a hammer
I am a nail
let me in
I’m feeling pale
Fame makes us crazy
fame makes us mad
and if you get it
you’ve been had
took to the cleaners
played for a chump
well on your way
to history’s dump

I’m trying to reset the pressure switch
and decrement the counter to zero
I’ve got a lot of notions and a lot of heart

I’ve got a firm commitment to observe
I’d like to be a dilettante a real edgy type

792 : 6/10/00 : The Present
The gift was wrapped in gilt and tulle
The ides of June the moon’s pull
October wedding what a gift
the present moment hear the voices Lift
After all the guests are gone
the gift of it goes on and on
If Orion’s in the sky
this Fall is not yet passed you by
So here among the present sing
and do not think of anything
tomorrow’s day and what it brings
is bound in bands of argent rings

791 : 6/9/00 : Plastic Fantastic
Plastic Fantastic Madison Avenue Notice Me, Notice Me
Please do your Cinderella magic all over me
It only hurts the first time: the first time
So bend me over and make the world love me
Venture some capital up my virgin pipes
I’ll be so eager I’ll earn my stripes
Plastic Fantastic Madison Avenue Daddy
Hand me my hat I want to work my Paddy
There’s only one way to be a super star
Someone’s gotta pay to tell them that you are
someone’s gotta be your strong protector
Your Humbert your Big Projector
I’m ripe I’m fresh I’ve never been touched
for a fistful of dollars in your sweaty palm clutched
I’m prime I’m ready to explode
ooh baby ooh baby let me swallow your load
Lay me back and fill my head with lies
I’ll ignore the ominous sound of flies
And how hard your big oak door shuts
It’s gonna be a busy fifteen minutes

790 : 6/8/00 : The Plagiarist
On page seventeen the novel
takes its second major twist
beginning with the seduction of Maria
ending with the introduction of the Plagiarist
In a stunning indictment of the genre cliché
the detective’s identity is unmasked
by the culprit of the dastardly plagiarism
long before the vital question is asked
In a surprising homage to the Library of Babel
the Plagiarist defends his actions thus:
insisting that eternity is time without direction
he’s in fact the one who’s been ripped off by us
in a final action of postmodern self dissection
the novel is revealed as the work
of the very plagiarist of which it tells a tale
cravenly copied by some undercover jerk
In the final stanza the secret is brought out
the Plagiarist is not a book as such
in fact it is the title of a very silly song
which is derivative of nothing very much.

789 : 6/7/00 : Invisible Friend
A burst of mad words from a tattered scroll
a clockwork medallion plays Jelly Roll
from a tinsmith’s heart a sound of joy
grab the grenade and pull the pin
the full scale orrery is nothing but a child’s toy
Open up your arms baby and let me in
A storm of syllables from a top hat
my invisible friend is grinning like a cheshire cat
cross my heart and hope to reincarnate
ask me no questions and I swear I’ll speak true
the answer to the pyramids is sealed in a dusty crate
and it alone explains how I found you
A whirlwind of images blows my mind
make no mistakes justice and wealth are blind
so I may die a pauper in chains
and you my murdering friend go free
but it won’t make me rack my brains
I’ll just whistle what will be will be

788 : 6/6/00 : Numbers Game
This whole show’s a numbers game
Run by the Family
Gödel knew its tricks by name
And deserves our sympathy
This old boat is run by elves
demons sorting air
hot and cold they please themselves
baby there’s no there there
Buy a ticket for the draw
try your luck with it
hold on tight it’s an old saw
you’ll give more than you get
This old number game’s a blast
going going gone
Thought we’d left it in the past
thought we were no more a pawn
I’m ripping my ticket up
I’ll make it on my own
Take a new drink in my cup
babe this bird has flown

787 : 6/5/00 : Began
What began yesterday
shall end far beyond today
seeds that were planted there
rise as I meditate and pray
what has been established here
won’t be thrown down without a fight
but quietly it grows alone
and veers not to the left or right
If I’d begun three years ago
would I be there by now
these questions don’t mean anything
and yet I ask them anyhow
well I began and that is all
that matters in the end
and if I can’t believe it’s true
with all my heart I will pretend

Why am I
why am I
why am I here on this mortal coil
why am I here for this asking
why do I fear the return to soil
the answer the final unmasking
what is
what is the
what is the duty that knows no name
what is the function transcendent
where is it written that in the flame
of my soul lies a goal independent
how shall we
how shall we
how shall we order and arrange
our efforts to rise up to glory
song is the same though the words may change
and unending unanswered story

784 : 6/2/00 : Epic Poem
Filed today via teletype
listen to the words and don’t believe the hype
through fields and valleys that I roam
bringing back the essence of the epic poem
parsed through a semantic engine
the fate of the universe is hinging
on the disposition of a piece of text
the epic poem has no special effects
long as shit and bold as dirt
don’t question its importance and you won’t get hurt
the meaning spreads out like heaven’s dome
releasing the miasma of the epic poem

783 : 6/1/00 : Turn of the Century
Black arts street smarts
ring around the rose
pass all the bucks
and let’s take off our clothes
In the council of sedition
the session is plenary
a signal of the times
and the turn of the century
halfway through the
empty empty set
cards down hard town
not a safe bet
What the year began
the year shall end
the turn of the century
the sinister bend

1,853 : 4 ?Seconds make minutes
minutes make hours
hours make days
well the weekend’s ours
days make weeks
and months and years
ain’t no use in wasting milk
over spilt tears
five point eight
two kliks shy
of the number of the beast
give or take a needle’s eye
five is perfect
prime sum of primes
fibonacci paradigm
and it even rhymes
five point eight
balance is askew
but I must put it aside
to make my way to you

And the grey men in their palaces

It was a
golden strand of memory
encoded in a complex string
of destiny and attraction
guaranteed to cause reaction
it formed a chain of logic gates
arrayed in theoretical plates
designed to fire in a cascade
each time the proper sequence played
twined in a helix tied in a knot
loaded with a single a reusable hot shot
designed to fire information into the core
nothing else nothing more
The birthday gift I gave to her
a tape record of what we were
wrapped tightly round a spindle
deep memories to kindle

for most of us
and for a few it doesn’t
it sux anyway
that’s what I say
the rich aren’t happy
the poor are sad
and everything between looks pretty bad
Why’s it gotta be that way
Some people say
they never get bored
Crackpots like that
need to be ignored
they’re anomalies they don’t count

I’ll say it twice
an endless pendulum
between boredom and vice
a ripoff no matter the amount

passed through veils
a thousand dreams
all the illusions still one streams
make mine holler
make mine squeal
make me an irresistible deal
make mine final
make mine square
make the Bastard take me there

768 : 5/17/00 : Blank/Zone
1,839 : 25 ?blank zone no mind no desire
not good not a good thing
not blank in a good way
just blank not present gone
blank book a clean slate again
every day starting again
reset again zero zero zero
here now anyhow in the blank zone
fish nor foul nor beast nor man
no one seems to know what kind I am
and in a blank and passionless night
I contemplate the sinews in my hand
What writes what records
the pen or the hand or the blank mind
records the sullen message of the blank
Zone that lies under this black land

Ain’t no girl like my girl Liz
No ain’t no girl like my girl Liz
Though many girls are fey and sharp
There’s just one makes me strum my harp
Yeah boys Liz is the only one there is
Liz drinks whiskey morning noon and night
mixed or single malt she does it right
but she never asks for much
besides except a friendly touch
she’s heavy but she doesn’t get uptight
Early riser in a subtle sense
if irony is not a shade too dense
as soon as sun sets in the hills
she rises o’er the blood lit kills
it’s beautiful but yeah it makes me tense
Aint’ no girl in t’ world like my girl Liz
Ain’t no girl at all like my girl Liz
just the sight of her by the swimming pool
can turn me right into a fool
Cause Liz is just the only one they is

765 : 5/14/00 : black angel
It’s all right ma like the man said
don’t let my strange lines bother your head
I’m not crazy no I’m not mad
It’s just a notion or two I’ve had
nobody wants to worry their mother
and I’m no different from any other
I try to cast all my facts in good light
when I talk to her at the end of the night
I’m a mama’s boy yeah I love my mom
and I think of her when I need to be calm
But I can’t let her see the dark half of me
the black angel struggling to be free
I guess she’d understand it though
we’ve all got an angel we never show
a secret source of power and light
that spreads its wings in the dead of night
While I channel a rage I do not feel
and stare bemused while I spin the wheel
I live a clean life for the sake of my mom
who rests safe as houses in the black angel’s palm

764 : 5/13/00 : Drowning the Dream
The dream is of drowning, the dream
is of dawning and under the
water with dragonflies
spawning the dream is
constriction a visceral
fiction I can’t breathe
I can’t see the water is dark
here the dream is of facing
some hideous other
that looks like a man
but that is no man’s brother
the eyes are the clue to
the riddle of how spinning
like golden disks holy
like sacred cow then
I’m back in the water
Stare through a black
tunnel as darkness pours
into my ear through a funnel
and just like the dream that
I have every night I scream out my
last breath and get ready to fight

763 : 5/12/00 : Scum and Hate
Scum and hate the froth of mad incisors
blood boiling in a quart stock pan
a shell fell down when I hit the sun visors
Locked and loaded everything according to plan
Goat's head on the tie rack dripping
gore in the closet and into the hall
something about the spike I’m gripping
makes me forget about anything at all
Flesh and blood, viscera and bile
keep it inside bloody and mad as hell
I face the world with a humble smile
waiting for my moment to crash through the shell
Hate the scum who deserve to die
mockers bastards every one
I’ll get to each and every one by and by
touched by an angel of death with a gun
One line written in thorns and wire
wrapped around my head and chest
Strapped to a movable funeral pyre
with a mad joy flapping wildly in my breast

I dreamed about a boat plane
a picture in my mind
it landed right beside me
because I’m the brilliant kind
I dreamed the plane flew in the air
and landed on the water
and turned into a boat
as bright as sunshine acid blotter
I sailed the boat across the sea
then flew the plane up in the sky
I captured 20 thousand stars
and held them in my open eye
and when the dream was over
and I came back to the real
I had no clue what it had meant
or how it made me feel

lord save me from this dry spell
my fields are turning brown
my tongue is sticking in my mouth
my head is spinning ‘round
it’s never been this long before
it’s never been so dry
I fear that in another week
I’ll simply have to die
who will save me from the dry spell
am I supposed to make it rain
am I supposed to draw the clouds
make it all work out again
I don’t know how to make the clouds come
don’t know how to crack the sky
the code of how the weather comes
is far beyond the likes of I
so I just sit and take the dry spell
pray like all the others do
pray that time will bring the water
float my messages to you

757 : 5/6/00 : Persistence of Vision
Spin the card and watch the hand move
make a fist and open wide
Fooled by persistence of vision
we all assume we’re on the same ride
Across the years the untold millions
a secret vision has been maintained
a life beyond the fourth dimension
a secret life left to be gained
a paradox inside the instant
a tiny serpent coiled inside
the motion of the second hand
a loss of breath and those who died
may know its name as we may not
perhaps beyond the quiet end
there remains the persistence
of a vision that peeks round the bend

756 : 5/5/00 Absence of Vision
Blindness darkness who knows
anymore the reason has been lost
for the absence of vision
Somehow we had incurred this cost
It was nothing ordinary
that we couldn’t see
The absence of vision
that had afflicted you and me
It seems we lost an extra eye
that saw beyond the pale
that saw beyond the day to day
that saw beyond the veil
How is it we know this thing
we know not what we pass by
absence of vision: blinded to
etheric tides that crash by

Seven years on the
french fry line
this is not my life
I dream about
water turned to wine
I dream a house a car a wife
Seven years
small boxes and large
Where did I go wrong
You can be sure
nothing comes without a charge
nothing but the occasional song
Another day
another week ends
this is not my life
life’s in the living
the path is in the way it bends
I have it in hand the sharpest knife

1,825 : 11 ?It’s starting to pile up
the drifts
the detritus of entropy
it’s starting to work into the
worm gears
it’s everywhere it’s plain to see
what is the source of
this excess
what is the reason
where is the duress
we served it willingly I guess
It’s starting to pile up

twenty stories high
best you cease
from contemplation
before it
piles up
to the sky

Perhaps it’s time to become
a whiskey man and
make my entrance on the
world stage
Who knows for whom the bell tolls
who else can turn my page?
Time for whiskey
cup full of ice
long afternoons in the sun
It’s like a habit
but I don’t mind
hey I’m not hurting anyone
So easy to imagine
going back to
the way things always were
I keep my mouth shut
smile sweetly
as it flies by in a blur

have to hack through this jungle
Cross the mighty river flow
many with us now will not
survive to reach the cargo
Dropped by old gods long ago
ancestors drew maps in light
projected into diamond cubes
to shine forth in the endless night
To lead the way though perilous
the tombs of magic gone out of the land
brought back by the next young gods
the secrets of the past in hand
no more will the heathen thrive

smash our rivals with the cargo

small arms and handguns

green and perfect

1,818 : 4 ?Maybe God is sick of creating
and that’s why everything’s wrong
Maybe God’s as sick of reigning
as I’m sick of writing this song
Maybe in the endless reiteration
He saw a futile loop
an unavoidable recursion
Maybe he’ll wipe it out in one fell swoop
Maybe there’s something wrong with my brain
and nothing else is wrong at all
caused by fluoride or radiation
or missing an important call
Maybe nothing is wrong with me either

just the flip side of an act of will

I wanted the flash flood
I wanted the kind bud
I wanted everything on a platter

I wanted a three minute revelation
I wanted to trace out every station
of the cross in the road
and all it might forebode
I’m sick of the flash flood
I’m sick of the taste of my blood
I’ve been down the path and every fork
I’ve been over a barrel stuffed with pork
and here’s the holy end of it
they’ll try to make you bend to fit
their mediocre master plan
the curse of the everyman

I wanted the kind bud
I wanted everything on a platter
did I think it would matter
I wanted a three minute revelation
I wanted to trace out every station
of the cross in the road
and all it might forebode
I’m sick of the flash flood
I’m sick of the taste of my blood
I’ve been down the path and every fork
I’ve been over a barrel stuffed with pork
and here’s the holy end of it
they’ll try to make you bend to fit

738 : 4/17/00 : The Dive (13/3 minute songs 6)
The dive into the depths of what she’d
Come to think of as the wreckage of the
Ship of thought she had erected in the Tower
Happened on a day like any other
Happened to remind her of her mother
Seemed to happen every other hour
The wreck was not an abstract thing
Though made of dust wrapped up with string
It had a presence powerful and dark
She dived in with intrepid ease
And slipped through like an errant breeze
That curls a strand of hair back and reveals the mark

737 : 4/16/00 : Parabola (13/3 minute songs 5)
God in His wisdom on His throne
hid the answer to the riddle in the section of a cone
while the fakirs strut out the la-di-da
I ponder the means of the parabola
everything’s a circle everything’s an arc
the lesson of the message
of the dream of a spark
the parabolic gospel
the transcendent arch
the final disposition
in the ides of march

736 : 4/15/00 : The Scale (13/3 minute songs 4)
A thought evoked a tortured cry
the vision of the future’s fall
and seen in one mind’s fevered eye
the failure to measure up at all
the scale she cried the scale’s the thing
and turned her face away at last
The scale the measure the brass ring
the hourglass and time flies fast
I heard the marker chalk the line
the scale and its dominion strong
and everywhere from here to fine
we fight the scale our whole lives long.

You are under compulsion
you are not your own man sir
say it too loud and you’ll make a stir
we live by desire and repulsion
I am under compulsion
the song must go on
hears the answer to the question long;
its all about jet propulsion

Bang daddy downbeat fraction
one two three four
and an inevitable equal opposite reaction
Watch me close a door
bang bang nothing to it
creating space warped symmetries

733 : 4/12/00 : Magic Bullet (13/3 minute songs 1)
1,804 : 21 ?Magic bullet find your mark
in the chaos, in the dark
just go to the place of your need
only my voice you’ll heed
magic bullet set me free from strife
do not ask after the purpose of life
just go to the heart of my problem
they do not ask and I will not tell them
mark me as one who saw the light
do not distract me from my endless night
far past reason down a hole
magic bullet strike your goal

732 : 4/11/00 : Obsession
Am I obsessed with the manufacture of verse?
am I under a spell, a voodoo curse?
does it all root back to my childhood days
or a summer long lost in a marijuana haze
I confess obsession with many things
God and watch works and Saturn’s rings
I’ve been recycling rhymes a long time it’s true
but I’m still trying to rhyme my way back to you
Is this obsession have I lost my mind
did I mask it with cigarettes and kind
if the therapy takes will I give it up
this fountain this overflowing cup
I’ve got a jones but that’s not what I mean
I’ve got to wash till my hands feel clean
I’ve got to write till the words are gone
so hey, today, another song
One day I’ll break through the barrier
the unknown terrifies - the alternative is scarier
to find at last the plenum or the void
someday when my obsession is destroyed

731 : 4/10/00 : Dream Park
Is the unexamined life worth living
Is the dream park of philosophy
a line worth giving
You’ll die for it but
would you stand in line for it
We’ll all stand in the line someday
waiting on the gates of Dream Park
No more afraid of the dark
between the final lepton and the first quark
Yeah dream park
is there a vision in my mind
of a California coastline
and a submarine made of bent pipe
those were the days
now I’ve been up here a long time
hibernating in a Northern clime
I feel my blood rising at last
for the next go round
la la la
striking some memory of a spark
light on the big screen of the dream park

730 : 4/9/00 : Hibernation
I’ve built up a nice layer of fat
Time to settle into my habitation
For a patented reverse hibernation
I tell you it’s more fun than a vacation
Gluttony in moderation never killed no one
One more bold descent into the cave
try to figure out what I have to save
meditate for a blissful year
I’ll be grinning from ear to ear
when it’s all said and neatly filed
the office where the letters piled
will shovel out and demonstrate
more incidence of love than hate
thus proving that above it all
the great Director’s casting call
can dial you up at any time
but then why not it was his dime

729 : 4/8/00 : Value
When the thousand voices are connected
by the thousand points of light
soft comes the next wave new wave
knock the pendulum swing from left to right
When the hundred thousand junkie army
arms itself and starts a nation state
The new heavy in highway armadas
new pirates a new sea to regulate
when the mighty million rise up
and raise me to my true dominion
many who were called but chose to screen me
will beg to be my minion
Meanwhile there’s only one of me
if I’m one in a hundred still the hundred’s there
Buying this and that and the other
Value vanishes in thin air

The Other Analog Hole
I was going to forgo these intermittent statements but this is an important announcement, maybe, I guess? It's not that important as important things go but it is definitely an announcement.
So, I did something I'd been meaning to for a long time and ran the dates from my current songwriting through an internet widget that calculates and the number of days elapsed between the dates. The number of days between the dates (inclusive) equals the number of songs, and thus did I discover that my song count was off by 599 (seriously). In a general sense this explained the frustrated sense that's been scratching at the back of my mind lately that I ought to have written a whole lot more songs by now.
Specifically though I had to dig back through the volumes to discover a total of four errors, three of which made some kind of sense (in two cases it seems likely I misread the previous song's number and so wrote down an erroneous number for the next in the sequence, in the other case it looks like I flipped back an extra page when checking the previous song's number); in one case the error was inexplicable, I jumped the number ahead by several songs without any reason I could discern. The first error I made way back in volume three (I'm on eleven now, mind you), almost 6 years ago. Dang. Such are the travails of a hand-numbered sequence in a series of longhand volumes, especially with handwriting like mine.
This is clearly far too many to write in corrections by hand (I'll take care of it piecemeal when I eventually get around to transcribing these songs) so instead I made notes on the front and back endpapers of each affected volume with instructions on correcting the numbers via simple mathematical corrections.
The other upshot of this of course is that basically every song number I've posted in the weekly status updates is incorrect. I fixed things from 1/25/10 on but other than that you're on your own, because explaining how to correct the other dates would be tedious and I'm sure nobody really cares. Suffice to say I should be writing song 1,800 of the second project today.

728 : 4/7/00 : I Don’t Want to Talk About It
I don’t want to talk about it
no more talking talking’s done now
no more waiting
no more wondering
time to start it time for fun now
thought you had my poor ass cold
You thought you had me bested
You have not a notion of
how often I’ve been tested
there is nothing like perfection
in a verse ad lib and rhyme
that will not protect your treasure
when I smash your paradigm
no more waiting for a savior
Savior’s been and gone
now the stage is set to meet and
receive virtue’s paragon

727 : 4/6/00 : Fast Track
Hey bodhisattva
won’t you fast track my enlightenment
I’ve got some big ideas about
nailing the establishment
I must be holy holy
So I must be full of power
I’m so convinced this autumn’s
gonna be my fate’s true hour
If you’d come along and free me
from attachment to the dust
I would know right at the moment
how to do the things I must
I’m on the fast track baby
no more waiting for the light
the time for words is over
no it’s time to rise and fight
No more need for patience baby
I am way beyond all that
I’m convinced I am a buddha
‘cause I’m wearing Buddha’s hat

726 : 4/5/00 : Jerk
1,797 : 14 ?Hey jerk
where’z your big plans now
spilt hastily across the page
lost somehow
where’z your holdout stash
your emergency supply
dealt with without regard
and many a day gone by
I must be a real jerk
to fool myself around
leaving all my best devices
on hard winter ground
soon to be snowed drifted over
Lost until another spring
When at last the freezing passes
I won’t recognize the thing

725 : 4/4/00 : Hard Planet
Hard planet
Young love
angels seen
meanwhile up above
the stars cross
a fate is prepared
revenge is a dish
best served shared
hard planet
forbidden and vile
stay with me and dream
of lost love a while
