Is it the third lean year
or the tenth or seventeenth
pretending to feel the wind of change
in the grip of my bared teeth
wanting and hoping
but not really believing
I learned want and hope
are far gone from receiving
my dullish Fat Tuesday
was done before starting
got one hour that stretched
everything was departing
good enough good as any
not a thing I could change
in the lean years it was all
the fat I could arrange
