The furious social climbing
among the second rate
Let me offer anything I’ve got up
to avoid that fate
rather stay mediocre
toiling in obscurity
no such thing as status
no such thing as security
I’ll never make a mark
among the mighty and great
I’d rather not be known
as anything among the second rate
I like to make believe
I’m in a class all my own
greater than the sum
of all I’ve done and all I’ve known
I’d like to never play the game
I haven’t done so badly
I’ll take my place among the second rate
and keep it gladly
