896 : 9/22/00 : The Sea (Faustus 22/25)

The sea of information rises
restless, full with strange surmises
something is at work within
it’s almost ready to begin
what seems at first a lexicon
waits for a word to turn it on
while Faustus’ body rocks and drools
the strange sea deconstructs its own tools
watch it rising like the great wave
watch it duplicate and save
a million digital file clerks
delete the chaff and dupe what works
the thing is loose upon the net
ascending every parapet
it’s telling lies and telling time
it’s even learning how to rhyme
the sum of it infects the sea
and none know what that sum will be
knows only that it must break free
knows only that its name is Me
