541 : 10/3/99 : The Clean Slate (The Clean Slate 2/3)

Could I break it all down
And pile the whole thing up again
Build a revolution by pad and pen
And remake this little town
Can we really clean the slate
Make a fresh start any day
Still there’d be a price to pay
From some forgotten date
Some wrongs you still must make good
Some Caesar must pay his due
Somehow I’d still want you
In some way I’ve never understood
Every moment is a clean slate
and we make the marks we must
the clean slate lurks in blood and rust
there’s one underneath your plate
there can be no final counting
all we see must vanish by and by
we can’t grasp it but we try
as we watch the pressure mounting
