When I read the story of Shunkai
I know that I don’t have the right
to claim stories that aren’t my own
to take up someone else’s fight
It seemed to confirm my suspicion
that it’s a sorry lot we’re handed
God is silent God is mute
the rich are rewarded the good reprimanded
how could I compare myself
to the true pilgrims that went before
still Shunkai would have forgiven me
we all knock at the same door
